The Master Cleanser

Also known as the “lemonade diet” invented by Stanley Burroughs in the 1950’s. It has been promoted as a means to cleanse the system to regain energy and health.

The Master Cleanser formula is:
two tablespoons of fresh squeezed lemon or limejuice;
one to two tablespoons of pure, 100% maple syrup;
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
all mixed in eight ounces of water (I highly recommend distilled water – see the section on Water for details). It is a good balance of flavors—sweet, sour and spicy; it can be slightly adjusted to taste.

The lemon flushes and nourishes the liver. It is high in vitamin C, potassium, and other minerals. Lemons are also an astringent, they will contract and tighten tissues, which will then loosen up and clear toxins from deep tissues and organs. Lemon or limejuice will cleanse the spaces in the joints and therefore are especially good for arthritis sufferers. Initially the cleansing may cause joint pains, but this irritation will pass, and the joints will improve.

The cayenne pepper clears the Blood, eliminates toxins and mucus and warms the body.

The maple syrup is a primary natural sugar, which gives the body energy. Consume eight to twelve glasses of this mixture throughout the day exclusively for one to two weeks. Also include one tablespoon, twice daily, of unrefined naturally cold-pressed olive oil is a good nutrient and intestinal lubricant to keep the intestines moving to clear toxins.

If necessary, carry this mixture in a glass jar, as the acids in the lemon may leach toxins from a plastic container into the drink. Rinse the mouth with water immediately after consuming to avoid damaging the teeth; the ascorbic and citric acids can pull calcium from tooth enamel. After the Master Cleanser, consume only fresh-squeezed orange juice diluted half with water, for a day.

On the second day, a vegetable soup can be consumed; drink the broth and then eat the vegetables. Include fresh apple or carrot-celery juice for the next few days. Progress slowly and eat lightly; when eating raw foods again, remember to chew well.
